Fall Grand-Chick Update

The Grand-Chicks hatched on August 7th and as we suspected, we do have one rooster. We will be sending him to Mendocino County to live with our friend, Tom Rodrigues, who owns Maple Creek Winery. The rooster was a little Blondie when he first hatched and is now very striking with lots of contrasting colors. I have a hard time capturing clear photos as they are constantly in motion searching for that perfect worm :).

We had a break in the rain today and I took some time to clean out the coop. With the three added chickens, the coop does not stay as tidy as before. The three new ones tend to scratch around inside and stir everything up. Grandpa even had to search under the shavings for an egg this week. Here is an update on their names and as always, Grandpa, Aunt Arlene and Ian came up with Seinfeld names: The white hen is “Seven” and the brown hen is “Marla”. We have not named the rooster ~ Tom will have that honor. Marla is really very sweet and the friendliest of the new chickens. They had a great time searching under the fallen apple tree leaves for worms and bugs.
